Dillinger – Dense gangster flick written by Philip Jordan, one of the best B films of its kind although a key bank robbery is made up of stock footage lifted from Fritz Lang\’s You Only Live Once. Rent-a-Kid – While the supervisor of an orphanage takes a holiday, dad Nielsen takes over with a strategy to raise money by renting out kids. While unsurprising, this brainless storyline is startlingly effectual. In the end 3 kids are rented by a hip \’90s couple thinking about adopting. A good family flick. Cast includes Leslie Nielsen, Christopher Lloyd, Matt McCoy, Sherry Miller, and Amos Crawley. (89 minutes, 1995)

Forgetting Sarah Marshall – Here is a romantic comedy set in a scenic islands in Hawaii. After being dumped by his girlfriend Sarah, he finally decides to go to Hawaii to get over the loss. Unfortunately, when he goes to check in at the resort, the first person he sees is Sarah, and of course her new boyfriend.

Adam\’s Apples – This film is a strange mysterious comedy about two very dissimilar men who have a battle of wills. It is a recently developed religious zealot versus a hard core neo-Nazi criminal. The battle of good against evil is on. The main stars are Ulrich Thomsen, Mads Mikkelsen, Nicolas Brom, and Paprika Steen. (German-Danish-comedy directed by Anders Thomas Jensen)

After Life – This is a delightfully crafted narrative of case workers at a train station between the heavens who assist the recently departed to single out a lone minute from their pasts to live within eternally. This is a quiet, poetic measure of life, death, and memory, filled with soft humor and thankfully free of some feel-good platitudes. Cast includes Aarata, Erika Oda, Susuma Terajirna, Taketoshi Naito, Kyoko Kagawa, Kei Tani, Takashi Naito, and Yusuke lseya. (118 minutes, 1998)

Straight Time – Hoffman knocks heads with sleazy parole officer Walsh following his discharge from penitentiary and begins a downhill skid. An immersing if not specially differentiated melodrama that gets a true shot in the arm from incredible acting by the supporting cast. Cast includes Dustin Hoffman, Theresa Russell, Harry Dean Stanton, Gary Busey, Emmet Walsh, and Rita Taggart. (114 minutes, 1978)

House on Haunted Hill – Zillionaire Price offers group of folks $100,000 each if they\’ll survive a night in a spooky old mansion with a haunted history. Cast includes Vincent Price, Carol Ohmart, Richard Long, Alan Marshal, Elisha Cook, Carolyn Craig, and Leona Anderson. (75 minutes, 1958)

Black like Me – Influential drama based on genuine history of a journalist who took drugs that permitted him to pass for black so he might live through racial prejudice first hand. Some facets of presentation are outdated, although subjects are still important. Cast includes James Whitmore, Roscoe Lee Browne, Lenka Petersen, Sorrell Booke, Will Geer, Al Freeman, and Raymond Jacques. (107 minutes, 1964)

The Iron Horse – Mythical, quiet film in reference to creating of the transcontinental railroad, entangled with expected human interest subplots engaging surveyor O\’Brien, darling Bellamy, deserter Kohler, etc. Might appear humdrum this current day; though it\’s essential to note that this motion picture fashioned what later was known as stereotypes. Cast includes George O\’Brien, Cyril Chadwick, and Fred Kohler. Gladys Hulette, J. Farrell MacDonald. (119 minutes, 1924)
